South Jersey Field of Dreams

What's it all about: The South Jersey Field of Dreams is a first class baseball facility designed to meet the needs of physically or cognitively impaired children. The specially designed field is the first of its kind in the state of New Jersey.

Who: Children from all over South Jersey can still join the fun. Participation in the league is free. To register a child for a team call Heidi Hackett, director of registration, at (609) 272-0431.

Why: It's about giving special needs kids a chance or a moment to live the dream. Just as every batter comes up to the plate, their name is announced over the loud speaker. Once in the batter’s box, every player hits, every player runs the bases, and every player scores. As the professional scoreboard in right field tallies the score, you can bet on one thing -- every game ends in a tie scor and the true winners are the kids who have just played their hearts out.
